Netflix made a turn on its Black Mirror by adding the first “Choose Your Own Adventure Story,” Bandersnatch. The story is mainly about a teenage gamer (Stefan) who makes his own video game based on a book he found in his deceased mother’s things. Then Stefan starts his adventure of coding for endless hours until he receives the perfect score from a television talk show host.
Although it may seem fun to play an interactive movie, there are several endings- five total ends- that can take a while to get to. Of course, you can click out at any moment, but if you have a curious mind, Bandersnatch could have you hooked. In the game, it gives you many chances to go back and fix mistakes if you must. This is what makes it a very long and tiring game. On a more serious note, Bandersnatch is rated TV-MA for violence and gore, profanity, drug use, and frightening and intense scenes.
Despite Netflix’s try at making an interactive film, there were a few bad reviews.
“The movie was pretty good, but the way the game was set up was not efficient at all.” - Bemnet Bekele (former LMMS student)
“I didn’t like how if you did something wrong it started over.” - Kaitlin Davis (7th)
While we couldn’t get any direct quotes from teachers/staff, we know that some teachers don’t like this new production.
Despite your hard work, Netflix, the overall rating for students and staff at LMMS is a solid 3/5. We'll see you next time on, “Review That Movie!”
