Question: What is gray and fuzzy, smells a little bad, and is hiding in the bottom of a 6th graders locker?
Answer: A leftover yogurt cup from the first day of school!
Locker clean out is always an interesting experience. Things resurface that haven’t seen the light of day in almost a year.
Lunchboxes, picture packages, sweatshirts, and permission slips are things that are all tossed in the trash bin during locker clean out. Homework that was never turned in and books that were never read tumble out when the door is opened. The slime that was so exciting first quarter now sits dried up in a jar. A headless Barbie doll cartwheels from a top locker and an entire pack of loose leaf paper gets flung aside. That kid has borrowed paper from me every day for the ENTIRE year! Broken pencils, dried up markers, a Spanish dictionary, and a roll of toilet paper are extracted from the clutter. The owner of said items, scratches his head, shrugs, and drops the whole lot in the rubbish bin. Down the way, a girl is holding a Valentines Bear and a dried up rose. She thinks about it for a minute and then both get plopped into the trash. Obviously that relationship didn’t last past February. An overdue library book, a single shoe, and a pair of broken glasses appear. Some sunscreen, dirty socks, and a ripe banana are unearthed. Utensils hoarded from the cafeteria and a pink balloon declaring “Happy Birthday” are added to the pile. What is left gets stuffed in backpacks and dragged home. Lockers are cleaned and ready for their new owners. It’s been a great year!
